Wildlife Expedition

Watch Humpback Whales (the acrobats of the whale family) as they bubble net, flipper slap, and breach. REMEMBER, we deploy a hydrophone so we can not only watch, but also listen in on the songs and underwater communications of our most famous residents. See Stellar Sea lions lounging on navigation buoys or feeding on salmon. Observe Bald Eagles scout for and snare fish. You might witness a Brown Bear Sow and her cubs’ beach combing along the rocky shoreline of Kruzof Island with Mt Edgecumbe volcano as the back drop. We could visit a Sea Otter nursery and observe them linked together nurturing babies on their stomach while resting in a bed of kelp. We may head to watch Brown Bears intercept Sockeye Salmon as they climb the waterfall to Redoubt Lake. Or set a course for Saint Lazaria National Wildlife Refuge, home to 15 different species and 250,000 breeding pairs of beautiful marine birds, including Tufted Puffins and Rhinoceros Auklets.  Sitka’s beauty is boundless. Have your cameras at the ready. Every trip, every day is different.

This expedition departs and concludes in Sitka, Alaska.
